ARTIST STATEMENT
Kalmplex is a Toronto based multidisciplinary artist working across painting, photography, and video. For more than two decades, the artist has documented Toronto’s cultural life, particularly its music, nightlife, and grassroots creative communities, building an expansive photographic and moving image archive that functions as an alternative urban history.
This long term archive informs a studio practice centered on large scale portraiture, lens based installation, and moving image works that expand archival material into immersive exhibition environments. Through painting and time based media, Kalmplex explores identity, memory, and cultural presence, positioning artist led archives as living forms of public memory.
